OPEN CAMPUS

OPEN CAMPUS

Nagoya University’s Open Campus is held annually in early August. In the chemistry department, we strive to convey the appeal of the Faculty of Science’s Chemistry Department to high school students and provide hands-on experiences. It’s a rare opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Chemistry Department.

Details of the program for the academic year 2024 will be released, and applications will be accepted starting in early July. For more information, please check the Nagoya University website.

HOMECOMING DAY

HOMECOMING DAY

The Homecoming Day is an event aimed at introducing Nagoya University to the general public, current students’ families, alumni, current and former faculty and staff, and local community members, unlike the high school open campus. It has been held every year on the third Saturday of October since 2005, and the event in the 6th year of Reiwa era (2024) marks its 20th anniversary.

The Department of Chemistry, School of Science and Graduate School of Science, also holds several events every year, including department introductions. Additionally, for those interested, optional laboratory tours and individual consultations are available, and many people participate.

Homecoming Day 2023 School of Science, Department of Chemistry Events

Date and Time
October 21, Reiwa 5 (2023), 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Ended.

Location

Laboratory Introduction through Poster Exhibitions
Graduate students from 10 laboratories in the chemistry department created and displayed posters introducing their respective laboratories, presenting the contents of their research and the atmosphere of their laboratories.

Regarding the 20th edition, information will be announced on the Nagoya University website around early August of Reiwa 6 (2024).

Participants’ Voices

Parents’ Voices
“I studied in a humanities department, so I didn’t understand what my son was studying, but I’m glad I got a vague idea after listening to the explanation.”
“My child was embarrassed and told me not to come, but I decided to participate because it was a valuable opportunity. I learned that my child is living in a very good environment, which reassured me.”
“It was very good to have an explanation about job placement. My child is still in the lower grades, so I think job hunting is a little further away, but I hope my child’s wishes will come true.”
“I was surprised at how well the financial support for graduate students is. Also, it seems that unlike in the past, you can get a job in a private company even in the doctoral program, which made me feel that times have changed.”
“The students who served as staff were very cheerful, refreshing, and likable.”

Feedback on Panel Exhibitions
“I am a graduate of the Department of Chemistry. I have attended the Homecoming Day almost every year. The panel exhibition of the laboratory I belonged to was interesting, and I always look forward to it because the content evolves every time, and I am always encouraged by the efforts of my juniors.”
“I was explained by student staff, but honestly, it was too difficult to understand, but they explained even amateur questions earnestly. The pictures of materials and experiments were beautiful.”

High School Student
“I was explained very politely so that even high school students could understand, and I became very interested. My image of the School of Science has changed a bit, and I feel like considering it as a career path.”

Parent of a Current Student
“I learned about the charm of the Department of Chemistry that I couldn’t understand from the information on the website.”
“I was worried about my child’s employment, but I was relieved to know that the university supports various things.”
“My son doesn’t talk about his university life at all, so it was good to be able to ask various things.”
“I am relieved that I can leave my child at this university with peace of mind.”

The exhibition of laboratory introduction panels was also a great success.
